STRESS MANAGEMENT

What is stress? Stress is a normal psychological and physical reaction to the demands individuals have in daily life (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Stress may also present as being good or bad. It can motivate individuals to get work done, but it can sometimes push individuals over the top. Stress management techniques gives individuals a range of tools and coping mechanisms to help the mind and body adapt (Mayo Clinic, 2020). When an individual becomes stressed the brain can also undergo major chemical and physical changes to affect overall functioning in daily life (Eliaz, 2020). When you do not do anything to handle your chronic stress levels it can also lead to complications such as stomach ulcers, heart attacks, asthma, and heart disease (Eliaz, 2020). Therefore, it is imperative to understand what is causing your stress levels and developing stress management strategies to improve overall good health and well being.

Some of the main components of stress management include: physical wellness, emotional/mental wellness, and spiritual wellness. Dedicating at least one hour everyday to get outside for a walk or run can be good for overall health and well-being. Additionally, if you are ever feeling stressed while working, it is helpful to take three deep breaths as well as meditating and being aware of your own body and how it's moving.
